Baccarat Crystal Chandeliers

When you hear the word chandelier, an image of luxury lighting that is too sumptuous or old-fashioned to have a place in a modern interior may conjure up on your mind even if you do have the necessary budgetary wherewithal.

Baccarat selected a number of female designers working in different fields such as fashion, product design and interiors, and asked them to design and craft (literally by themselves) their own sets of chandeliers, using Baccarat crystal.

An official at the French crystal maker said it wanted to explore new possibilities for chandelier lighting through the project. Among the 10 works is Water Light, a magnificent chandelier sporting a shade studded with colored crystal. German fashion designer Christiane Gestrich completed the elegant and dreamy piece by weaving copper wire around the crystal to create the shade.

The French crystal company was founded in 1764 in the village of Baccarat in Lorraine, eastern France. Baccarat has always been active in working with top designers. According to Baccarat, the first French crystal company to specialize in making chandeliers, interest in and demand for chandeliers are steadily rising in Japan.
